The Browns Thursday hosted more than 700 athletes and coaches from Special Olympics and Cleveland Metropolitan School District for a Play 60 Football Festival at the team’s training complex.

Multiple Play 60 activity stations were available in the Casey Coleman Field House, including youth football drills, inflatable challenges, dancing, and an exercise prize wheel for guests to get active and win prizes provided by UH, Medical Mutual and American Dairy Association Mideast.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer, defensive tackle John Hughes and more than a dozen former Browns players were on site along with to join the celebration and promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Coach Mike Pettine paid a visit with kids on site as they went through a high-knees activity station.

“To me, it was very clear from Day One when I got here, as I was going through the organization and different departments, what jumped out to me was how active the community relations department was and heard how well it was thought of,” Pettine said. “Events like these are outstanding, especially this time of year, to be able to get kids in out of the snow and have some fun.”

Hoyer added, “I got to throw passes with some receivers and to grow up in this community and to be with these kids, it’s awesome.”

Guests dined in the team’s café as lunch was provided by Cleveland Touchdown Charities in addition to a generous donation of milk from American Dairy Association Mideast.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training & athletic competition in a variety of sports. The program is designed for students within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District with Intellectual Disabilities.
